The Point Lepreau Nuclear power plant has been given the green light to keep operating for at least five more years. The Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission has announced they are renewing Point Lepreau’s operating license until June 30th of 2022. In it’s decision the Commission praised the Nuclear plat for taking adequate measures to protect both people and the environment. However, it criticized NB Power for a lack of transparency and lack of publicly available emergency planning at the nuclear generating station. In approving the plant’s license it ordered NB power to make emergency planning available to the public no later than this August.
